The Texan with Loft – Modified
This log home was recently completed in Comanche, Texas. It is a modified version of a Satterwhite Log Homes model called The Texan with Loft. Satterwhite of Longview, Texas is one of the country’s largest log home package providers, selling not kits but materials packages including random-length logs that are used to construct the homes. The ease of floor plan modifications and the finish-out discretion provided to the homeowner/builder makes Satterwhite a popular log home provider.
This Texan with Loft was originally a 2160 s.f., 4 bedroom/3 bath home. Our clients in this case modified the floor plan by changing 2 bedrooms into a den and a large game room, downsizing one of the baths to a half-bath, and “opening” the plan to a more free-flowing design. One guest bedroom suite – with it’s own full bath and closet – occupies one side of the split loft design, while an open game room overlooks the home from the other side..
In addition, they added 1500+ s.f. of covered, surrounding porch - 12 ft. deep across the back of the house overlooking a private lake. A 2-car covered carport with attached storage room and attic storage above is “attached” to the house by a covered breezeway, and a 12 x 12 detached storage shed complements the “estate”.
The upstairs loft areas are divided into two parts – one at each end of the house – connected by an open catwalk over and across the center “Great Room” – living room, dining room and kitchen. The Great Room is highlighted by a 27 foot tall double-sided 4 ft. by 6’ sandstone fireplace and four skylights.
The stairs to the lofts are accessible from both the living room and the den, and the ceilings and walls in the Great Room, the dining room, the kitchen, the den, the game room and the master bedroom and bath are 1x8 Ponderosa Pine lacquered natural.
The master bedroom suite features a 6 x 14 walk-in closet, a heated Jacuzzi whirlpool tub, a separate shower and commode room and double vanities - all finished with cultured marble.
The kitchen features granite counter tops, a center island and a 9 ft. long pantry closet.
Ceramic tile covers the kitchen, dining room, laundry, guest baths and master bath, while wood flooring covers the remainder of the house.
All cabinetry, woodwork, trim and railings are crafted, milled, sealed, lacquered and installed by our own staff to create a truly “custom” home.
